The short cut to copy and pasting – CTRL+C and CTRL+V. Never used them? I doubt it.
With the development of the internet and the increase in the information we are exposed to, copyright and plagiarism are becoming an increasingly large-scale issue. With its creation in 1750, people may wonder what point there was back then. There was no internet, or email, or You tube for that matter, but it was for the protection and recognition of a creation like an artwork or play so others could not distribute it and make a profit which was extremely common.
However in this day and age, things are a little more complicated. With the creation of major corporations such as Time Warner Corporation (who possess the copyright for Happy Birthday) and Disney, copyright and plagiarism laws some may say have been “blown out of the water”. As a result, Time Warner Corporation is bringing in USD$2 million dollars in annual royalties for their little ditty of Happy Birthday. And guess what? If you sing Happy Birthday in public without licencing, it’s copyright infringement. Who hasn’t done that?!
But let’s face it, who hasn’t copied and pasted in their life? On a silly little assignment at school just to get it done, or ideas for thesis statements for belonging. It’s just so easy to do that why should we bother to do it ourselves.
